爲啥詞典開頭總是 "abandon"?
世界上第一本英語詞典于 1604 年由羅伯特 · 考得裏(Robert Cawdrey ) 編撰而成,起名爲 " 字母順序單詞表 ",到今天僅存世一本。打開看到第一個單詞,是 "abandon"。

"abandon" 解釋爲 " 放棄;中止 ",于是大家紛紛自嘲:這哪裏是詞彙書,明明就是預言書!我懂了,叫我們一開始就學會放棄,世上無難事,隻要肯 "abandon"。
言歸正傳,詞典編撰者可沒有讓大家放棄的想法,"abandon" 排在第一位,除了延續傳統,也是出于按照單詞的組成字母順序來排列的考慮。
"abandon" 此詞在十四世紀末期産生,其來源是拉丁語中的 "ad",意爲 " 處于 " 和 "bannum",意爲 " 宣告、命令、禁止 ",組合在一起演變成法語中的 "abandonner",最後才成爲我們今天看到的 "abandon"。
事實上,"abandon" 并不止 " 放棄 " 那麽簡單,讓我們一起來看看它的意思和用法吧!
